Sustainable and high-quality living in the smallest of spaces

The housing complex in the centre of Herisau is a pilot project for microliving. Blumer Lehmann was the general contractor and responsible for the modular construction.

The timber module one-room studios and two-room apartments provide comfortable, centrally located housing, and the compact living space also has a small environmental footprint. It took just 10 weeks of construction to transform the 18 timber modules produced in our factory into nine high-quality apartments, each with a total floor area of 47 m2. The modules were all supplied with a kitchen, bathroom and electrical installations. The economical housing even features an 8 m2 balcony.

The high proportion of wood used in both the interior and exterior of the three-story residential building also ensures that it has an excellent carbon footprint. The walls made from spruce create a cosy feel inside, and the rear-ventilated facade of the building was designed in cooperation with the monument preservation authorities and with consideration for the townscape. With well-insulated outer walls, triple-glazed windows, a heat pump located outside the building and its own solar panels, the residential building is in one of the best energy efficiency classes according to SIA.

The living concept for the Herisau microapartments incorporates high levels of quality, comfort and security, all in a compact living space. The 150 m2 roof terrace can be accessed by all tenants and is used and maintained communally.
