Cantonal school uses modular structures as stopgap during construction phase

Blumer Lehmann is acting as general contractor to plan and build a modern temporary school building for Wiedikon cantonal school at its Hohlstrasse location. The complex consists of two school buildings and a sports wing with two sports halls for roughly 650 pupils. An existing construction contract between the Canton of Zurich and Blumer Lehmann will be used to implement the temporary school building – and meet the tight deadline.

The modular school building will provide the necessary classrooms until the new building earmarked for the Zurich Wiedikon cantonal school on Hohlstrasse is ready for use. Following production from October 2023, the modules for school building B will be assembled in December and in January 2024 for school building A. The scheduled completion date is the start of the new school year in summer 2024.

The temporary school building consists of two free-standing modular buildings. It houses 18 classrooms as well as physics and chemistry rooms. A projecting roof connects one of the two school buildings to the sports wing, consisting of two sports halls that Blumer Lehmann is also implementing. The additional vast green spaces planned in the outdoor area together with the modular catering facilities will create a fully-fledged and well-equipped school complex that meets the Minergie-Eco energy standard.

The sodalite facade is designed with architectural art and gives the temporary modular school building a coherent and attractive appearance.
