Blumer Lehmann won the FSC competition with its planning application for the Rosenmaar School in Cologne. We commissioned Jankowski Bürgener Architekten Stadtplaner, a local architectural studio, with the architectural designs for the first two extensions as modular timber constructions for the City of Cologne.
The Rosenmaar School is located in the Holweide district of Cologne. This location provides the school with the necessary conditions for its principles of inclusive, all-day, mixed-age, cooperative. This is evidenced by vast outdoor space featuring old trees and the outdoor area for keeping sheep. Blumer Lehmann is expanding the existing school building complex from the 1950s with a modular construction. The extension will provide 180 pupils with comfortable and high-quality classrooms as well as space for free and innovative forms of learning.
The flexible modular construction with visible timber meets the requirements of the pedagogical school concept with pupil support centre and special rooms such as physiotherapy, pottery, library or bicycle workshop. In addition, the two-storey extension with 1,700 m2 of usable space will have a number of direct access points to allow the children to move quickly from the classroom to the outdoor learning area and vice versa.
