The new modular school building is being built on the ‘old swimming pool’

The primary school in Ettelbrück will soon feature a new school building as a modular construction. As GC, Blumer Lehmann planned and delivered the modular construction for the primary school according to plans drawn up by Thillens & Thillens. It will take just under six months to complete the structural implementation.

Special feature of this school building project: the new modular construction is being built on top of the existing ‘old swimming pool’ building. The total gross floor area of 470 m2 of the two-storey modular school building accommodates 4 classrooms and three toilets per floor, two of which are wheelchair accessible. The upper floor is accessed via a stairwell. The energy supply as per the Minergie standard is ensured by the existing building. Fire protection was a particular structural challenge. This had to be ensured in coordination with the existing building.

The exterior of the extended school building is also a timber construction. Exposed spruce and fir slats form the facade.

The green roof has a positive effect on the indoor climate of the classrooms below, as the evaporation capacity of the plant layer provides cooling in summer. In winter, on the other hand, the green roof structure acts as thermal insulation.
