The Breiti living quarters in Göschenen has been planned with foresight and built using a modular timber method. Blumer Lehmann was involved in project development from an early stage, produced the timber modules and executed the build as general contractor.
The five-storey residential building is initially serving as staff accommodation for those working on the Gotthard tunnel. The plan is for it to be fully dismantled in 2032 and the individual timber modules will be used in a youth hostel building elsewhere, for example.
The residential structure consists of 135 timber modules and provides 102 single rooms, each with 14 m2 of living space. Our project team designed in extra levels of living comfort from the start in view of the later reuse of the modules, for example with poured screeds and footfall soundproofing. With a tight time frame for the construction phase, the timber modules were prefabricated as much as possible in the factory and fully equipped and fitted with sanitary, heating and electrical installations. CLT panels were used to build the timber modules.
