Two apartment buildings on Frankenallee

With its 43 apartments, this residential complex in the centre of Frankfurt consists of two buildings and a green courtyard. Blumer Lehmann carried out the construction of both apartment buildings as solid timber structures in the role of joint GC.

The element-based construction used cross-laminated timber, laminated timber and solid timber elements to make it fast and compact – very advantageous, especially given the lack of space on the inner-city construction site.

The basement level and stairwell are made of concrete. Concrete was also used for the fire-protection walls, which need to satisfy the most stringent noise insulation requirements due to the tracks nearby. The facade was created with rear-ventilated larch-wood formwork.

The new building complex houses 43 residential units and replaces two ageing former office blocks on the Frankenallee site. To dovetail with the enclosed perimeter block, the building facing the street has six floors. The three-storey rear building is set back slightly behind a green courtyard.
