Commencement of the timber modular construction at Schlossmatt school
Construction can begin! A total of 106 timber modules will be assembled to create a schoolhouse made up of two different buildings for the Schlossmatt school complex in Burgdorf. The schoolhouse is scheduled for occupation in November 2024.
The modules are currently being produced in our factory to ensure that they are ready for the erection of the first of the two buildings at the end of May. Assembly of the modules for the second building will then commence at the beginning of June. The new schoolhouse will be ready for occupation by the students and teaching staff in November.
Timber modular construction satisfies climate targets
As the general contractor, we will construct timber modules that fulfil the numerous sub-targets of KlimaVision30 for the city of Burgdorf: for example, the facilitation of new timber buildings, the development and production of solar power or the reduction of overall energy consumption. Additionally, the extensively wooden schoolhouse offers an optimum indoor climate and can be used for longer than one generation.
Made up of one two-storey and one three-storey building, the schoolhouse was designed by Bauart Architekten und Planer AG. This design complies explicitly with the requirements of the city of Burgdorf and is based on a modular classroom system that can subsequently be expanded and raised with additional storeys. or: It will be dismantled and then rebuilt on another school site.
Classroom project receives support from the local community
The classroom project initially got off to a shaky start. Following project planning approval for the kindergarten and the day school in 2020, and the CHF 13.3 million building credit granted by the city council, a referendum was held. With a positive result from the vote in March 2023, however, the local community validated their support for the project. The ground-breaking ceremony for construction of the modular school construction took place on 26 February 2024.
The 106 timber modules are currently being produced on the Blumer Lehmann factory floor. Following assembly in May/June and completion on site, the schoolhouse will be ready for occupancy in November 2024.
